WASHINGTON, D.C. –The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has given final approval to a national green building certification system that awards five points toward new indoor environmental quality standards for a home equipped with a central vacuum system and three points for homes with MERV 8 or greater air filtration.

Section 902.5 of the new standards list a central vacuum system vented to the outside as an option that will earn  five points toward meeting the Indoor Environmental Quality thresholds, which range from 36 points for Bronze Level certification to 140 points for Emerald Level certification. The five points allocated for central vacuums are more than any other optional indoor environmental quality improvement to a home.

Carolina Closets Plus is the area's largest Beam central vacuum and Beam HEPA air filtration dealer in the triangle.  Mike Hoffer, owner, says “we chose to represent Beam because of their outstanding quality and commitment to the green building movement.  We are extremely dedicated to providing our customers with the most healthy solutions for their daily living."Pinehurst, NC Feb 4, 2009 - Mike Hoffer, president of Carolina Closets Plus, announces a new service area to Pinehurst, NC.  Mike says, “this area is really expanding and we are excited to be a part of it.  Our ability to make all of our own parts with our computerized CNC router gives us the competitive edge to expand during an economic downturn”.  Plans are moving forward to be servicing this area within the next month.

Chapel Hill. NC Dec 14, 2008- Carolina Closets Plus has just introduced a new feature on all doors.  Effective immediately, we will begin using a new "soft close" hinge on all doors.  This type of hinge is typically only seen on very high end kitchen cabinets but owner and co-founder of Carolina Closets Plus, Mike Hoffer says "This is just another way for us to show our mission of detail perfection for our customers.  We are making this a standard feature on all installations because it makes the job turn out just that much better.  The best part is that it doesn't cost anything extra!"  It's a great way to WOW your friends when they come over to look at your new closet/home office/garage organization project.  A soft close feature will slowly close your door when it approaches the cabinet frame.  It operates hydraulically so there is no slamming sound when the door shuts.

This new hinge is fabulous!  It really makes a difference.  It works much better than the little bumpers that always fall off of the cabinets.  Great idea, Mike.    Beth in Chapel Hill

My new basement storage and home office is absolutely beautiful.  I was really worried about all the door slamming and didn't really understand when Bob told me about this soft close feature.  I wish I had it on all my kitchen doors.  Thanks for Raleigh, NC Oct 22, 2008 - Carolina Closets Plus installs the first "green" pantry in the triangle region of North Carolina.
